Club LBP?
A couple of other club members and myself have been looking at the adverts in Target Sports for Long Barrel Pistols. These look interesting - especially the .22 ones now available that look good for precision shooting; also you don't have to reload ammunition for them and the ammo is cheap! The club has several guns that members can use, but not one of these. We asked the committee if they would consider getting one but they say they are not allowed to: is that correct?
Sadly, yes: your committee is quite correct. Even though clubs can hold some firearms for use by their members, this excludes LBPs and LBRs, thanks to the redefining of clubs in the 1997 Firearms (Amendment) Acts. It therefore applies to both single shot pistols and also revolvers. These can be perfectly legally held on your own individual FAC Firearms Certificate) when applied for under the appropriate variation, but clubs may not hold them on the club's FAC.
It also means that whereas one FAC holding club member can use the conventional rifle or muzzle-loading pistol of another club member while on club ranges, you are not permitted to lend your LBP or LBR to another member. Quite a ludicrous situation, and would hope that this unnecessary restriction will one day be lifted. However, until such time as that happens, do listen to your committee.
