MEDAL HAUL IN HANNOVER

Created on 26th May 2009

British shooters put in a good show at the International Shooting Competition of Hannover (ISCH) which finished 3 May. Both pistol and rifle accolades were won: a total of eight medals and a new British Final record in 25m pistol.

Mick Gault, Nick Baxter and Iqbal Ubhi set the ball rolling, winning the 50m team pistol event. Soon after, Mick added his individual gold to the tally, trailed by Nick in sixth place. Proving insatiable, the same trio also took silver in the Men's team air pistol event. Gorgs Geikie, Britain's top lady pistol shooter, continued the success with a third place in the Women's 25m event. Her Final score of 773.3 set a new British Final record. In the Junior Women's pistol events Hannah Polak was on top form, taking gold in the 25m event and following it up with silver in the 10m air pistol.

Senior Women's prone gold was taken by Johanne Brekke from Wales, whose excellent 596 was a mere point off the British and World record score. Scotland's Kay Copland achieved bronze in the Junior Women's prone, with a fine 594. Another promising junior, James Huckle, took a comfortable win in Junior Men's air rifle. His final score of 697.2 equalled the British Final record.

Wales' Steve Pengelly was a mere point away from medal position in centrefire, eventually taking fourth with 567. Dave Phelps, also from Wales, and Scotland's Ollie Barron both missed out on their finals by a single point - Senior and Junior Men's prone respectively. Danny Evans (WAL) managed to make the final for Junior Men's prone but finished the day in fifth. The Scottish team of Dave Caughey, Martin MacGill and Sinclair Bruce came close in Senior Men's prone, claiming fifth place just three points away from a medal.
