NATIONAL SHOOTING WEEK 2009
Created on 26th May 2009

The Countryside Alliance has published new research highlighting serious misunderstanding by the public about gun use. The report comes in conjunction with National Shooting Week (23-31 May), a marathon of events dedicated to increasing understanding of shooting sports and pastimes.
According to the study, a survey of 1,007 adults in the UK, 9 out of ten people believed that training young people to use legal firearms safely would not stop misuse of guns. Over half (51%) thought that such training would lead to an increase in the misuse of firearms. Only 9% said there would be a reduction in misuse as a result of proper training.
National Shooting Week director Rob Gray said: "These findings illustrate just why initiatives like National Shooting Week are so important. Shooting teaches control, discipline, responsibility and courtesy - qualities to make every parent or head teacher proud. We want to encourage both young and old to learn about this accessible, inclusive and safe sport by taking part in National Shooting Week."
Do your part for the sport - take a non-shooter along to a National Shooting Week event.
