Imperial ammo decision

Created on 20th July 2009

The ammo for this year's Imperial Meeting is to be 155-grain RWS Target 7.62mm, under a major deal between the NRA and RUAG Ammotec.

The ammunition, developed to give optimal performance at both long and short ranges, uses a Sierra Match King 155-grain bullet loaded in an RWS. The powder comes from RUAG's own range.

Jeremy Staples, MD of the National Shooting Centre, said: "For many years the MoD has supplied the NRA with 7.62mm ammunition in lieu of payment for range hire. This agreement ended in 2007 and it was essential that the NRA found a quality supplier who could provide the ammunition at an acceptable price."

"We undertook a series of tests with four potential suppliers," he added. "RUAG, who has an excellent reputation for producing top quality ammunition, were the clear frontrunners. Following extensive trials involving bench testing, a factory visit, comparative firing trials and use of some of the country's top shooters, the NRA was delighted to award RUAG Ammotec the contract."

RUAG will also be sponsoring the Grand Aggregate at the Imperial, which attracts over 1,000 competitors. Phil Unwin, MD of RUAG Ammotec UK, said, "This is an exciting opportunity for RUAG and we are confident that shooters will be pleased with this new RWS Target ammunition."
